Founded by a mother, a triathlete, an accountant, a small business owner, and a registration guru, we have one goal in mind...Helping Kids Help Kids.

BARB THUKRAL - Founder & President

Barb is the proud mom of three beautiful boys. Through first hand experience with her oldest she learned just how lucky we are to have Clubfoot Solutions next door in Iowa City. A 5 time marathoner and avid yogi, it seemed natural for her to delve into the world of triathlon-founding when her son needed rehabilitation after surgery to finish the correction of his clubfeet. "Swim - Bike - and someday you will be able to Run again", became the mantra of Summer 2011.  6 years out, he swims, he bikes, and Wow does he run. Barb is inspired by the resilience of children, and is reminded that it's okay to have fun and be playful even under pressure. Having completed her first triathlon in 2013, she's trying hard to catch up to her kids!

BRUCE DRESSEN - Vice President

Bruce is a Project Manager by day and has mastered the efficiency of life so much so that he has time to work tirelessly for the KFAC Board. “It’s all about time management, I have everything dialed in so accurately that I essentially have an extra 12 hours in my day”. Whether it’s been through coaching, scouting, school board, working on the triathlon or being a parent, I just like helping kids. Outside of this, Bruce is an avid bike rider, cook and enjoys spending time with his wife and two children. Bruce lives in South Minneapolis and brings that “outside” perspective to the board.

Avesh is the proud husband to Barb Thukral and dad to three boys.  With Barb they have gone through the journey together of seeing their oldest son Julius learn to walk after casting, surgeries and many exhaustive hours spent in physical therapy. He is inspired by the quote in book Wonder, “I think there should be a rule that everyone in the world should get a standing ovation at least once in their lives.”  KFAC gave this to Julius and inspires Avesh to give other kids this same opportunity, to hear others cheer them on!  Avesh brings a wealth of finance experience as during the day and some nights he is kept busy working at Best Buy as a Lead Buyer.  We are thrilled to have his experience and analytical approach!

Janell is the mother of one active son, who has participated in Kids for a Cause, as well as several bike races and 5k's.  She's also a dog mom to two active herders, which she's been lucky to race with as well.  Janell is also an active triathlete, competing most recently in long course triathlons, although she feels most at home on the bike.  Janell is a certified personal trainer and yoga instructor working with clients in her private studio.  She also moonlights as an accounting manager.  Janell is excited to be a part of Kids for a Cause and feels that it is important to build healthy active kids, who also want to do good for others.

JENNIE WEBER - Marketing & PR

Jennie has been a mom for most of her adult life - literally! So loving kids is just part of her everyday life.  She also has a firm belief that most of us have enormous capacity to help others & to give back. In addition to being a new and active member of the Kids for a Cause board, Jennie helps out at Nativity of Our Lord School, has coached soccer and volunteered at Junior Achievement. To keep herself busy she is also a passionate marketer at her favorite local retailer Best Buy.  Her love of technology & marketing will come in very handy for K4AC!

PETER SCHROCK - Member at Large

Peter Schrock is CEO and Director for the Family Swim School of Eagan and Lakeville, Minnesota, and he brings extensive experience in swimming instruction and organizational management to Kids for a Cause. The confidence with which he handles the swimming portion of the triathlon is proof of his years of experience as both a swimmer and a coach.  When Peter is near a pool, you know things will run efficiently and safely!Peter has coached swimming for teams at Montana State University, Northwestern University, Loyal Academy, and Northfield High School, as well as serving the International Olympic Committee in 1981. Heidi is the mother of very active twin daughters who have participated in Kids for a Cause and were sad when they were too old to continue. Now they can help mom with her board duties instead! Heidi herself is an active triathlete having competed in all distances from a sprint to a full Ironman. She fell in love with Triathlon because she likes to be active in many types of activities and enjoys the cross training involved with triathlon. In addition to swimming, biking and running, Heidi is a certified yoga sculpt instructor. She loves seeing kids engaged in the sport and trying new activities, especially when it benefits other kids! She also serves as the Director of Residence Life at St. Catherine University and is pursuing her doctorate degree at the University of St. Thomas.
